Hi all,
This is a space for posting all words and ideas related to the mission statement of our group. We plan to take everyone's posts and create a word cloud to see what words come up the most frequently. Hopefully this will help guide us to crafting a mission statement for our overarching "umbrella" group. Have at!

I will start with 'networking' and 'community,' which I feel have been the most consistent themes of our meetings so far.

Community, skill sharing, support, protecting natural environment, alternative energy, political action, empathy, group projects, educational workshops.

some of the words floating in my head (hard to narrow down to just a handful of ideas): networking skill sharing/barter/trade community learning new skills helping bridging old and new/modern and vintage.... decrease use of fossil fuels

Ues I'll second decreasing use of fossil fuels and also add building social capital and access to shared resources.

Bridging Connecting Listening Leveraging Local Action Resiliency Neighbors
Further thoughts: For the overall umbrella group the mission statement should be simple and clear... not getting into all of our interests. From a broad perspective describe the essence of what all the interest essentially create. For example: "Creating greater resiliency at the local and global level by the bridging of differences through the leveraging of local action. "

Here is a copy of my last email re: group name and mission statement (which we started to work on at the last meeting) If folks don't dig Madison County Action Network, perhaps Madison County Community Resource Network would be better? Working with rewording what we have above: The Madison County Community Resource Network seeks to build a resilient community for all Madison County residents and friends by sharing information and other resources and fostering supportive connections. Please review and provide any thoughts or feedback within this email chain. Thanks!! “[Name TBD] is a Madison County (welcoming/inclusive?) community network building resiliency through resource and information sharing (exchange?), and fostering connections through mutual support.” Here's a link to some photos taken at the workshop that gives a peek into the process. goo.gl/photos/hRQjH6RwkuJQXZXM9 Laura

I like the Mission Statement as is, you guys did a good job on that.
Other name that I suggested a while back was: Friends of Madison County
Anyone else have any ideas? Maybe we could get a good list going and at the meeting do a quick vote to narrow it down to 3 and then post those names up on a doodle poll or something.

I support the list and doodle poll idea.
For both name and possibly mission statement variations too.
I'm happy to set up the poll.
Thank you everyone!

I think voting on a poll is a great idea for group name and/or mission statement but there are currently 2 threads discussing this. I think we ought to combine to avoid confusion.

Yes, we should combine the conversations.
Also, for those thinking of using a Doodle poll, that's a tool to help schedule gatherings, etc.
For the name poll, we can use a poll right here on the forum/boards.
I'll set up a test poll so you all can see.
Best, Leah
