Appalachian Voices is working to develop an On-Bill Financing program for energy improvements to homes in the French Broad Electric Membership Cooperative service area. There are two ways to get involved in what I believe would be an amazing program for our community to reduce energy costs, energy related carbon emissions, and improve the local economy.
First, attend this meeting: From Lauren Essick at Appalachian Voices "I’m writing with the final details of our rescheduled French Broad Community Energy meeting. We are planning to meet Thursday, March 9, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Madison County Cooperative Extension Center.
The focus of the meeting will be to continue the discussion of how French Broad EMC could better meet the needs of the communities they serve, and of the need for inclusive, on-bill financing for energy efficiency improvements to homes. We will also hear more from local service agencies about their efforts to assist local families in paying heating and electric bills, and how a program to improve the comfort and energy efficiency of local homes could help expand those efforts.
We also want to create a space at this next meeting for community members to discuss various ways the co-op could do more for their members. A wide variety of issues were brought up at November’s forum, and we would like to bring everyone to the table to discuss the intersection of these concerns and start planning how we can best move forward together to address them. We can also begin a conversation about issues members might like to bring up at French Broad EMC's annual meeting.
So please join us Thursday, March 9 to share your ideas and experiences and to discuss what the next steps should be for this campaign. I will need to know how many people to expect, so please RSVP at this link. All are welcome, so feel free to invite others.
We are also interested in providing child care during the meeting. If you, or someone you know, would be interested in this role, please let us know. And if you have any questions about the meeting, feel free to call me at: (828) 262-1500 (office) or (336) 382-1978 (cell)"
Second, encourage the Madison County Commissioners to approve a resolution supporting the development of the On-Bill Financing Program (see attached resolution. You can call and/or email your commissioners (contact info available at www.madisoncountync.org/-commissioners.html). Another great way is to come to the Commissioners meeting at 7pm on March 14th at AB Tech Madison and speak during public comment in support of the resolution.
